Year 12 - Loves Me Not Program


Dear Parents / Caregivers

On Thursday 16 May, all Year 12 students will be signed out of their timetabled subjects to participate in a one day course of the ‘Loves Me Not’ program. This program is a school wide approach and has been designed by the New Zealand Police to advise, inform and guide adolescent’s to establishing healthy relationships and keeping themselves safe in various situations. Known New Zealander psychologist Nigel Lata, is a key spokesman of this course and voices the importance of adolescent’s being able to recognise healthy/unhealthy relationships and doing so, is a life skill (YouTube link below). The delivery of this course is collaborative, being delivered and facilitated by local Hawkes Bay Polices Officers, selected teaching staff of Taradale High School and allowing student voice in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Day Logistics/Information

  • All year 12 students will be signed out of their scheduled timetable
  • Students will be split and assigned into house groups, males and females combined
  • Facilitating teachers will be assigned to their house group to ensure students are comfortable in open discussion
  • School Guidance Councillor and Health Nurse will be on site, available for year 12’s only
  • Students will need to attend form time as normal, with period one in their assigned house groups and classes for the remaining of the day. Lunch will be shortened 1.30-2.00pm.
